I have always loved the shape of the SAAB Sonett I roadster, but similar to the BMW 507 I never liked the stance and choice of wheels. Diameter too large, tires too skinny and a stance that would suit a 4×4 – not my cup of tea on a roadster intended to be driven hard. Fixing these three problems is exceptionally rewarding on many cars from the 60’s and 70’s, because the designs are often adorable. Apply this recipe to a first generation SAAB Sonett, add a set of American Racing Torq Thrust wheels and tires with white lettering on the sidewalls. Voilà, you have a roadster that it still tiny and nimble, but looks like it packs a lot more punch.

Few people would think this legendary BMW designed by Albrecht Graf von Goertz needs more muscle or any other modification. And with the car being a high-priced classic it is probably wise not to tinker with it. However, sometimes you want to let your phantasy run wild, don’t you? Imagine if somebody with sufficient funds would get hold of a 507 roadster…
I always thought this particular vehicle is very elegant and beautifully shaped – but the stance was never to my liking. The nose high up in the air just doesn’t cut it for me. Now, I could have lowered the car and be done with it. But no, I added a few subtle modifications like the period-correct wheels a chopped windshield and a larger exhaust. Who know what might be hiding under the hood? A supercharger would be nice you think? Let your imagination go crazy!

The smart roadster is quite a fun car to drive. A rigid chassis with great suspension setup, low curb weight and diminutive size. The only downside is the automated transmission, really. So, what would it be like to add a proper transmission, bigger wheels, tires and brakes plus a subtle bodykit? Look at the pictures and decide for yourself.

Most of you might have never heard of the 1940 Coachcraft Roadster. Well… I actually found out about it not even two years ago. Despite the short wheelbase, this little roadster doesn’t really need many modifications to look even nicer than in standard trim. Compare it to the original here.
