Volvo 262C Coupé Bertone

“A door is what a dog is perpetually on the wrong side of.” Ogden Nash

It really makes me wonder what the photographer of the original picture had in mind, when he placed a rather large dog in the rear seat of the Volvo 262C? Is it possible that he wanted to illustrate that dogs are good companions and like to travel in Volvos? Good idea, but judging by the dogs’ rather sad face he might have actually prefered to ride in a 265 station wagon.

The original picture was on my hard drive for more than a decade. The first try on modifying this vehicle is just as old – and was horrible. So I saved it and forgot about it. A chance encounter with a 262C on the Autobahn last week reminded me of the old file and I openened it in Photoshop again… only to delete it minutes later. After a quick search for the same picture with better size and resolution, I started to modify it again. This time around I changed a vital part that I didn’t think about ten years ago: the rear fender. The Volvo 200-series cars have a rear fender cutout that prohibits lowering the car without looking odd, because the upper part of the wheel disappears behind the sheetmetal. Once that was fixed I selected a set of wheels with period correct design, lowered the car, modified the front spoiler and added the black stripes.

It took ten years to finally finish this one, but now I’m happy with the result. If you have any suggestions what could be done differently or better, please let me know in the comments. Thank you in advance.

Nissan March Super Turbo (EK10 GFR/GAR)

Fond childhood memories include a Nissan Micra with a huge soft top that could be openend electrically. Even though this was a nice feature that I enjoyed as a young passenger, the car still lacked something with it’s red paint, skinny tires and off-road like stance. Other markets enjoyed Micra / March versions that packed more ponies under the hood. One of these was the Nissan March Super Turbo (EK10 GFR/GAR) – a limited production (10.000) homologation model. Fitted with a nice bodykit from the factory, all it needs is a set of mesh wheels and a healthy drop.

Mercedes-Benz W123 Pick-up by Baumgartner

Once again, a colleague challenged me to do a lunch break “quickie chop”. This time it was inspired by finding a stunning bagged and stanced Mercedes-Benz W123. A quick search provided an interesting base to start with: the W123 Pick-up by Baumgartner. Due to the limited time available, there was only so much I could do with it. Obviously, the vehicle is lowered substantially and sports period-correct aftermarket wheels. But there are also some modifications less obvious, like the shaved rear door and the relocated rear fender well. Hey… it could have been done that way back then. 😉

Jaguar XJ6

The Jaguar XJ has always been one of my favorite 4-door sedans. This particular cat has been lowered and larger diameter wheels have been mounted. There isn’t really a lot you can change on a classic Jag without making it look silly. Just keepin’ it simple this time…

Honda CIVIC Hatchback

Another Honda from the 80’s. Only minor modifications to create this virtual model. I retained the stock look of the third generation CIVIC Hatchback and just lowered it over 15″ mesh wheels. The lights have been altered also for a cleaner look.

Honda Prelude BA2

In my opinion, Hondas of the 80’s have had a very sleek and clean design – there being no need to change anything on the body or trim. The BA2 Prelude was the first Honda I owned. This one has been lowered over period correct 15 inch mesh wheels and the windows have been tinted.
